Host How I Host: Tracy Rassin on Thoughtful, Effortless Gatherings

Tracy Rassin is a founder, entrepreneur, and the creative force behind FrutaPOP, the maker of boozy and non-alcoholic ice pops made without added sugars, syrups, or artificial ingredients. She is also behind The Collab Lab, an innovation and collaboration studio that helps brands bring ideas to life.
A natural connector and experienced host, Tracy brings the same creative thinking to gatherings that she brings to her businesses.
Her celebrations balance thoughtful design, playful products, and an easy sense of connection. The result is an atmosphere that feels considered but never overly styled—and gives guests plenty of ways to join the fun.
Hosting Q&A with Tracy Rassin
Q: When planning a gathering in your home, where do you start?
A: I always start with a theme. It helps guide everything from the menu and cocktails to the flowers, music, and tablescape. I’m drawn to the details: how the food and drinks are presented, the color palette, the table setting, and even the packaging.
I love when all the little details feel intentional and connected, but still effortless for guests. For me, the best parties feel thoughtfully curated but never overly fussy.
Q: What are your favorite ways to entertain guests?
A: I love anything that gets people interacting, but I don’t think entertaining has to mean organizing a lot of activities. A signature cocktail, a fun food experience, or even a simple conversation starter can be a great way to get people talking.
I especially love incorporating an interactive element into the food or drinks I’m serving, whether it’s a custom cocktail, a pairing, or a tasting that guests can help create.
For instance, I always love serving our boozy ice pops by FrutaPOP. Depending on the occasion and theme, I’ll choose a few flavors and let guests mix and match, adding the pops to their wine or cocktail for a little extra boozy fun. Our non-alcoholic pops work great this way too; they can instantly turn a drink into a frozen cocktail or mocktail.
The mix-and-match element allows guests to get creative with their pairings, naturally getting people talking and sharing about their favorite cocktails and wines, the combinations they love, or even what they’ve been up to lately. It becomes an easy conversation starter without feeling like a planned activity.

Q: If you had a limited budget for a small dinner party, what would you focus on for the tablescape?
A: Always fresh flowers! Simple, seasonal flowers can make such a difference. Depending on the occasion, I also love incorporating fruits and vegetables into the tablescape when I can. They add color, texture, and an unexpected element to the table, and you can use what’s in season or what you already have on hand.
For me, it’s about making a few thoughtful choices that make the table feel special without spending a lot.
Q: What makes a great gathering memorable?
A: The best gatherings are the ones where everyone feels comfortable and connected. Of course, the food, drinks, music, and setting all help create the experience, but it’s also those little unexpected details and personal touches that people really remember.

Q: What tips would you give someone who feels overwhelmed by hosting friends at home?
A: Remember why you’re gathering in the first place. Your friends are coming together to spend time with each other, so don’t lose sight of that by getting caught up in making everything perfect.
And don’t try to do everything at once. Take it one step at a time. Start with the menu, then the drinks, then the table, then the music. Once you break it down, it becomes much more manageable and a lot more fun to plan.
Q: What is your signature recipe—or signature item—to serve when hosting?
A: Always our boozy ice pops and non-alcoholic mocktail ice pops by FrutaPOP. They add an element of whimsy and nostalgia to any gathering.

Q: What’s your go-to soundtrack for a dinner party at home?
A: I love a playlist that evolves throughout the night. The goal is to select music that sets the mood without taking over the room.
Q: What is your favorite party trick?
A: I’m all about making the most of what you have, finding ways for things to serve more than one purpose, and making sure nothing goes to waste.
One of my favorite tricks is using FrutaPOP ice pops as both a garnish and an ingredient in a drink. The pops slowly melt into the drink, so it’s a fun way to add another layer of flavor.
I also love using seasonal fruits and vegetables as part of the tablescape. They add color and texture to the table, and then you can actually eat them afterward—so nothing goes to waste!

Q: What do you love about Partytrick? What’s your favorite Partytrick feature?
A: I love that Partytrick makes hosting so much easier and takes some of the overwhelm out of planning. There are so many little decisions that go into planning a gathering, and I love that Partytrick has everything in one place and allows you to take it one step at a time.
Q: What is the most memorable party or gathering you’ve attended or hosted, and why?
A: One of the most memorable events was a summer soirée I recently hosted that brought together artists, design industry professionals, and friends. I love when a gathering feels natural, and people genuinely connect.
It was a beautiful summer evening with delicious food and cocktails, but more than anything, it was the people and the energy in the room that made it so memorable.
Q: What are your favorite products or brands to use when hosting?
A: Of course, our boozy and mocktail ice pops by FrutaPOP! They’re always a fun addition to a party and can be served on their own or added to a cocktail or mocktail.
For ice buckets, we’re obsessed with Nice Bücket. They make some of the most stylish ice buckets, with so many different designs and styles to choose from.
For flowers, Farmgirl Flowers is a go-to. And for candles, we love Scentille. Their candles are clean, vegan, and female-founded, which makes them a favorite.

Partytrick Take: Real Hosting Takeaways
Tracy’s style shows that hosting can feel both polished and playful. Her strongest ideas are practical: choose a clear theme, use details that serve multiple purposes, and create one interactive moment that helps guests connect without adding more work for the host.
How can I recreate this hosting style in a simple way?
Choose one defining element and repeat it thoughtfully. Start with a seasonal color or flavor, then carry it through a simple flower arrangement, one signature drink, and a small tablescape detail.
For an easy, interactive touch, serve two or three ice pop flavors alongside wine, sparkling water, or a batch of cocktails. Guests can choose their own combinations, and the drinks become both refreshment and conversation starter.
What is the most important planning decision behind this gathering?
The theme is Tracy’s anchor. It shapes the menu, drinks, color palette, flowers, music, and presentation, which keeps the planning process cohesive. More importantly, it makes each choice easier: if an idea does not support the theme or the guest experience, it does not need to make the final cut.
That clarity also supports guest flow. A self-guided drink experience gives people something to do upon arrival, while a playlist that builds through the evening helps the atmosphere evolve without overpowering conversation.
What can hosts borrow from this approach for their own event?
- Pick a theme broad enough to guide decisions without turning the night into a costume party.
- Give one food or drink element two jobs, such as a garnish that also adds flavor.
- Use seasonal produce as affordable, edible decor.
- Build the event in layers—menu, drinks, table, music—and stop before the details become stressful.
