What's your process for planning a gathering in your home?

Starting with a theme is a great way to plan a gathering and provide a unique experience for your guests. By establishing a specific theme, such as a costume party, a movie or game night, or a culinary experience centered around a particular cuisine, I can set the stage for a memorable event. The theme serves as the guiding principle that shapes your planning decisions, from decorations and activities to food and attire. It also adds an extra layer of excitement and allows me to create a cohesive atmosphere that sets the gathering apart from the ordinary. It's a great way to let my creativity shine so I can plan an unforgettable event for my guests.

What are your go-to party activities or games to break the ice?

Using a Polaroid camera as an activity at a party adds instant fun and nostalgia. I love encouraging guests to take instant photos of themselves or with friends.  Works great as a guest book alternative or let guests take home their instant photos as keepsakes. The activity adds a tangible and creative element, capturing and sharing memorable moments.

If you had a limited budget to put together a small dinner party, what would you focus on for the tablescape?

When it comes to table decor, a patterned tablecloth or table runner that matches the party's theme or color scheme is always a great choice. A busy pattern can create the illusion of more design elements than there actually are, making it a smart way to elevate your table's aesthetic.

What makes a great gathering memorable?

Crafting a warm and welcoming atmosphere is all about infusing your personal touch into every aspect of the gathering. It's about extending heartfelt greetings to each guest, making them feel genuinely appreciated and valued. Thoughtfully arranging comfortable seating that invites conversations and connection.

If someone is feeling overwhelmed by hosting their friends in their home, what tips would you give them?

Keep it simple: Remember that hosting a gathering doesn't have to be overly elaborate or extravagant. Focus on creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere rather than trying to achieve perfection. Opt for simpler menu options, decor, and activities that are manageable and enjoyable for both you and your guests. Also, don't forget about the disposables! If you want to use your fancy dishware, go for it with the main course and bring out some cute paper plates for dessert. We have a bunch that fit the bill!

Favorite recipe or food to serve when hosting?

I am always about dessert! If you want a modern way of serving cake, try cutting your cake into cake bars. Flouring does this so well! If you are having a kid celebration, the sprinkle cakes from The Flour Shop are always a crowd-pleaser! They even sell kits if you want to make one at home.

What is the soundtrack to a dinner party in your home? Have any favorite playlists?

I like music that is not too overpowering, allowing for conversation. I usually tend to play music in other languages. For cocktails, you can't go wrong with some old-school French cafe music or Buena Vista Social Club.

What is your favorite partytrick?

Having a backup plan for outdoor parties: If you're hosting an outdoor party, be prepared for unexpected weather changes. Having a backup plan in case of rain or insane temperatures is always a good idea.
